Red Creek Canyon Trail The
heart and soul of Red Creek Nature Ranch is the trail into Red Creek
canyon and following the creek-bed downstream for over one mile while
observing the varieties of plant and animal life in and out of pools of
water passing through the various limestone formations. From the
headquarters area take the county road south for one-quarter of a mile to
the first pasture road right. Follow it in a westerly direction (same
path as the Bluff Trail) then turn south for a short distance to markers
pointing west and downhill. Follow the trail down the steep incline to
the creek bed. Hike cautiously and step carefully at this point. At the
bottom, cross the creek and follow the pasture road for the next one and
one-half miles, crossing the creek three more times. There are several
optional detours to points of interest and lookout points along the way
for those that want to see it all. Descending 200 feet in altitude, the
trail makes a loop down the canyon and connects with the county road at a
point about one and one-quarter mile from the headquarters. Total trail
distance is roughly four miles. The walking distance can be reduced by
arranging for someone in a vehicle to meet you at some point along the
way.
